Groups for Young People
“Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
Romans 12:2
Each session tends to end with a prayer time where we encourage you to share your prayer needs and to pray with each other. We use a variety of means to do this drawn from different church traditions. Our aim is to make you as familiar and comfortable with prayer as possible.
Young People’s House Group
Every Sunday evening, during term time, a bunch of friendly young people gathers at ‘283’. The group aims to help you explore what it means to live as a Christian in today’s world. Because the group is smaller – there’s plenty of space to handle hot potatoes and ask awkward questions. We also pray for each other.
The young people decide which topics we discuss – some have even volunteered to lead sessions! Last term we looked at: ‘Music Christians shouldn’t listen to’ ; ‘Creation: A Rational Belief ?’ and ‘What do Catholics believe and Why?’. We also survived a couple of socials. One evening we went to Norwich to see ‘Hot Fuzz’ and on another occasion we saw a mind-stretching art movie called ‘Spiderman 3’. We have also had a meal out together. If you are aged 15-18 why not come and give us a try! We meet between 7 and 9pm. Do bring your bible.
Youth Alpha Course
Every year we run a Youth Alpha Course. This lasts for a term and deals with the basics of Christian faith. It’s also an excellent opportunity for you to bring your friends along. We begin with a takeaway (pizza was a favourite last year); we then watch a PowerPoint presentation (normally including DVD clips); we conclude with a short discussion allowing you to ask any question you like.
Q3
Q3 is the group for young people aged 11-14 years. We meet during church services Our aim is to provide you with a bible based study which is pitched at your age group. More than this we are keen to make the studies that we do relevant to your life and to challenge you to grow in faith personally.
There is no such thing as a typical Sunday as we change the content of the programme regularly. We also tend to start each Autumn term more gently as this is when new members get ‘promoted’ from Kidz Church.
The sorts of activity you can expect from a Q3 session include a sizeable proportion of the session engaged in a bible based study. For example we have recently been on a tour of the old testament to give the young people a grounding in, and an overview of, God’s plan.
We also include games, puzzles and competitions which are geared to fit the week’s study and usually either help recap the previous studies or are illustrations of a learning point. We swap and change the games and puzzles to suit all tastes.
